Synopsis
The red light that has been blinking inside the booth all season, and the number stamped under the lifted paint, get paid here.
Plot
They land in the factory where the shells are made and find the man who had their booth before them, shut inside one that will not start. The rule of this world, shown whole: a booth only starts for a record it has never played. The factory is full of blank records, so nothing in it starts, and the only record theirs has never played is the one in his hand. The lesson is not spoken. Malios reads the number under his own paint, looks up at a wall of thousands of numbers, and understands that every booth on it was paid for by somebody who stayed behind. What he got for free was charged to someone.
