Two vertical series made at home, sharing one cat, one needle and the habit of explaining nothing. Thirty one episodes, their characters and the rules of each world.

Malios Dark

The name Andryu Schittone works under, a self taught developer based in Cardiff. He does three things with the same hands: music, software and animation. These two series come out of that same workshop, with the same rules of drawing.

Music

Gothic metal, dark electronic pop and Latin rhythm, with AI directed music videos. The music in both series is his: he writes it and mixes it in by hand over the finished cut.

Software

AI tooling, communications systems and hardware. Among his projects there is one that estimates a person's three dimensional pose from WiFi signal alone, a messaging protocol with post quantum security, a LoRa mesh and several ESP32 boards with AI detection.

Animation

The same workshop makes the episodes end to end: script, generation, cutting and publishing. An episode is 37 scenes of eight seconds, each starting from the last frame of the one before it, and all of it is cut with ffmpeg.

Hard ink lines, flat colour, no gradients, and a cold key light on one side with a coloured rim on the other. That light is not decoration: it is half the drawing.

Season 1

  1. 01AgainA town where every hour can be run again until it comes out right. The discarded hours pile up outside the walls as crumpled sheets of paper, and nobody there has ever kept a first try.
  2. 02The stringsA town where every favour done to you ties a coloured cord around your wrist, and the only way it comes off is by giving that favour back.
  3. 03The B sideThey land, the town locks itself in, and the record playing inside the booth turns out to be a countdown: when the music stops, the thing comes out.
  4. 04The auctionThey land in a floating auction house where everything gets sold, including things nobody put up for sale. By the time they notice, the booth is lot number seven.
  5. 05The trainThey land inside a train that has never stopped. People are born on it, married on it and buried out of the windows.
  6. 06The doublesAn island where everything has an identical copy: two of every house, two of every dog, two of every person. Within a minute of landing there are two of them as well.
  7. 07The quiz showThey land backstage in a television studio and are pushed on air as contestants before anyone asks their names.
  8. 08The wrong grooveThe needle skips and they fall between grooves. Every groove is a different record drawn in a different animation, and they are drawn in it too. If the side ends while they are in the wrong one, they stay that way.
  9. 09Who made itThe red light that has been blinking inside the booth all season, and the number stamped under the lifted paint, get paid here.
  10. 10Let it playSeason finale. Everything the cat has stolen since the first episode is in one room, screwed together into a second Rocola, and there are two cats to run it.

Season 2

  1. 01Tuesday is starting to smellThey fall inside a week: a seven storey building where each floor is a day. They land on the Tuesday, which has been under refurbishment since 2003.
  2. 02The side you lickUnder the mixing desk, in the cat's stash, there is a record with no printed label. The label is stuck on, and it is licked.
  3. 03The soup is winning 3-1A stadium that is a mouth: the diamond is a tongue, the bases are molars, the stands sweat enamel and the sky is a palate. Nobody mentions it.
  4. 04The ugly laughA factory that makes laughter, inside the ribcage of something enormous that is still alive. Laughs come out of people as wet pink bubbles with a few teeth in them and are packed into jars.
  5. 05All at onceNo town, no rule and no guest who explains anything. This one runs on the Superjail engine: somebody starts a stupid scheme to satisfy something personal, and the episode climbs in noise and surrealism until it ends somewhere psychedelic.
  6. 06I am not going inA day at the beach, on the beach where the sand is black vinyl and the grooves run down to the water. Nothing happens. That is the joke.
  7. 07Do not touch that dialThe needle sticks between grooves, the booth stops travelling and starts receiving. The episode is channel surfing.
  8. 08The screwThe booth will not leave because one screw is missing from the panel under the deck. One. Four square metres, five minutes, two people and a cat.
  9. 09What it recordedThe whole episode is the booth's own security recording: a locked off camera up in the corner by the speaker cone ceiling, looking down at the mixing desk and the door.
  10. 10The one who answersThe season closes. Since the finale of season one the booth has not been going where the record says: it has been going where Kenya needs, because she is the one who paid.
  11. 11The day afterPicks up seconds after the last shot of the finale. The booth has stopped answering Kenya and is obeying the record for the first time in two seasons.

Season 1

  1. 01The one who arrives with nothingHe lands crooked on a tiled square. They call him by a name that is not his and nobody doubts it.
  2. 02The scribeTo exist you must be written down, and the one who writes eats the names as he cuts them.
  3. 03The one who switches offWhoever says somebody else's name out loud switches off, like an appliance, mid sentence, and the conversation carries on.
  4. 04The marketNames are bought second hand and tried on in front of a mirror like a jacket.
  5. 05All the same but oneIn that neighbourhood every cat has a bent tail in the same place, and a straight tail is the one thing nobody there looks at.
  6. 06The one wearing my faceA bottle episode: a four metre room, no way out, and every fix makes it worse.
  7. 07The academyNew cats are taught to steal. With a uniform, with marks and with a teacher who believes in what she does.
  8. 08The officeThe double. The second cat that left with the second Rocola at the end of the first season of Rocola got here before him and has done well.
  9. 09Where they are keptTold in another medium: the whole episode is what is heard inside a groove. The picture is a turning platter and a needle, always the same.
  10. 10His name isSeason finale. They drop the needle on the groove where his name is, and it plays.
